After an overnight journey, Meghan and the Queen disembarked at Runcorn Station.
Meghan wore a cream custom Givenchy dress with a cape overlay, $355 heels by Sarah Flint and -- according to The Sun's royal reporter Emily Andrews -- pearls gifted to her by the Queen.
Her Majesty wore a hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan and matching coat by Stewart Parvin, one of her favorite designers. Pinned to the coat was the Dorset brooch, first owned by the Queen's grandmother, Queen Mary.
Meghan looked totally at ease in the company of the monarch, which is exactly what was intended, according to the Queen's former press secretary, Charles Anson.
“It is the way of the royal family—all part of the training and getting used to being in public life and under public scrutiny,” Anson told People Magazine. “Showing people the ropes is a high priority for the Queen.”
The ladies attended the opening of Mersey Gateway Bridge, which included a plaque unveiling by the Queen and a performance by local schoolchildren. After Her Majesty and Meghan visited performing arts center Storyhouse for more live entertainment.
