1. UPDATE 12 p.m. 9/19/16:
Ahmad Khan Rahami, the man authorities believe is responsible for the Chelsea explosion, was taken into custody Monday morning. He was captured after an encounter with police ended in gunfire.
Video surveillance has surfaced showing Rahami planting two homemade explosives in Chelsea on Saturday, only one of which exploded. It is now believed that Rahami is also responsible for a pipe bomb explosion that occurred Saturday morning at a 5k charity race in Seaside Park, New Jersey. Officials initially did not believe the Seaside Park explosion and the Chelsea explosion were related.
Although Rahami is a naturalized citizen born in Afghanistan, authorities are still stressing the fact that his motivation behind the bombs and any possible affiliations he might have to terrorist groups are still unknown. "We don't know his particular ideology or what his inspiration was or whether he was directed or whether he was inspired," an anonymous law official told the New York Times.
