Being on a gameshow is admittedly harder than it looks. Your mind can inexplicably go blank at the worst possible time and even the simplest of answers will evade you. Up is down, right is left and you just blew your big question.
Evan Kaufman of New York City found out firsthand when he competed on an episode of ABC's "$100,000 Pyramid." He was paired up with Tim Meadows ("Saturday Night Live," "Mean Girls," “The Goldbergs"). Meadows was not Kaufman's dream-partner (Betty White) but the comedian is respectable in his own right.
Kaufman had one job in the final round: give Meadows a clue for “People Whose Last Name is Obama.” There are several acceptable answers here. Barrck. Michelle. Sasha. Even Malia might do. Bo the Portuguese Water dog??? But no, Kaufman blew the question, and this is what happened:
So, it’s not that he misread the question. He knew it said "Obama" and his brain still went to a weird place. On national television. Say hello to the internet, Evan.
All was not lost. After the clip, Kaufman recovers and is able to give Meadows the right answer.
He ends up leaving with $8,500, which is not bad for a day’s work. Especially a day's work where you eff up so badly.
In Kaufman’s defense, he's a brand-new sleep-deprived dad. It's amazing he was even upright.
Twitter has been heaping love and praise on Kaufman for his honest retelling of the worst round of "Pyramid" of all time.
And even better, in addition to the $8K, Kaufman has made some new friends from the ordeal.
Joey can relate.
