2021's inauguration is one like never before, mostly because it included an #indoguration.
A what?
An indoguration! It's like an inauguration, but for the president's rescue dog, Major. The first-ever event was put on by the Delaware Humane Association and Pumpkin Pet Insurance on Jan. 17. Major was adopted by the shelter by Mr. President and the First Lady in 2018 and is the first rescue dog to live at the White House, so what better way to celebrate this historic milestone than with an online competition that raised over $100,000 (to date) for the no-kill care and adoption center?
According to USA Today, five finalists -- who wore bow ties designed by teen entrepreneur Sir Darius Brown -- were chosen from over 700 nominees for the title of Secretary of Rescue Dogs (a position in Major's "cabinet").
Brown announced the competition's winner, Harper, a border collie therapy dog who visits nursing homes, beat heart worm disease and is known as "the best support system for everyone she meets."
Well done, Harper!
P.S. Look at this side-by-side of Major as a puppy vs. his "Gotcha" day that the DHA shared on their Instagram page today:
And now, we leave you with a song by Josh Groban dedicated to Indoguration Day and all the good boys and girls who deserve a home.
