As we move closer and closer to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding date, Lifetime is sending yet another gentle reminder that its movie about Harry and Meghan premieres the same week.
The new trailers -- yes, trailers -- for "Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance" are out, one from Harry's perspective and one from Markle Sparkle's.
While I think that whoever cast Prince William (Burgess Abernethy) and the Queen (Maggie Sullivun) should have their CSA privileges revoked, I couldn't help but kind of/sort of like Meghan and Harry's characters, played by Parisa Fitz-Henley and Murray Fraser, respectively. And Lifetime was at least paying attention when they selected the poor man's version of the Self Portrait dress Meghan wore to the Queen's Christmas lunch last December.
I think the trick to enjoying these made-for-TV movies is to have really, really low expectations. Harry and Meghan only dated for two years before getting engaged, and everything we know about their courtship (aside from what they revealed in their engagement interview) is either based on assumption or printed in the media.
The scriptwriters, as they've done many times before, are working with what they have and are no doubt sprinkling in several scenes that will leave viewers calling bullsh*t.
The trailers have a "He Said, She Said" theme, in which the Duchess of Cambridge badgers Harry about settling down. I never thought I'd say this but it was the first time I felt like telling Her Royal Highness to STFU.
"Peter Pan can't stay in love forever, and marriage isn't so bad," terrible Catherine says patronizingly to her brother-in-law.
Judgmental duchesses aside, the trailers are fun. I'm not going to pretend this will be a great movie, but who knows? You might not complain about the two hours spent watching "Harry & Meghan" that you'll never get back.
