We don't want to get our hopes up, but the newest trailer for "Mary Poppins Returns" looks very promising. Emily Blunt picks up where Julie Andrews left off (though no one will ever top Andrews' performance), returning to her former charges on Cherry Tree Lane via -- what else -- a kite.
The trailer kicks off with Disney's signature castle shot, albeit one with a London backdrop (excellent attention to detail).
The first thing the eye catches is the scene opens on Cherry Tree Lane is the Admiral's house. Remember the cannons he'd make his assistant fire off? And the neighbors would hold tight to their priceless antiques and chandeliers instead of demanding he get rid of his cannon? Classic. And dangerous.
The trailer is absolutely glorious; you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get hit right in the nostalgias. You'll yell "Holy Cow!" when you see some familiar faces. It's a treat. A real treat.
"Mary Poppins Returns" opens in theaters Dec. 19.
