We've all heard of the phrase, "Stick to your day job." Well, it was never more obvious than when I learned on Twitter today that German tenor Jonas Kaufmann recently released a Christmas album.
Titled "It's Christmas!", the two CDs includes operatic hits and traditional christmas carols, before finally wrapping with a cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Kaufmann, who has a magnificent operatic voice, unfortunately sounds like Kermit the Frog in trying to stretch his vocal talents.
Take a listen:
This reviewer on Amazon understands:
"Nothing could have prepared me for the final track: 'All I want for Christmas is you'. Jonas sings [sic] Mariah Carey is something I never knew I needed, and is every bit as successful as Mariah Carey sings [sic] Götterdämmerung would be. I was driving when I first heard this, and laughed so much I actually had to stop the car. Whoever thought this was a good idea deserves both a knighthood and to lose their job. This final track is a strong contender for worst Christmas song ever -- and yet I commend it to you, especially in these terrible COVID days, because I haven't laughed so much for ages."
FYI, this is an example of Kaufmann's gorgeous tenor voice:
Everyone just stick to their strengths.
