Jimmy Kimmel is the Dwight to John Krasinski’s Jim -- but only when it comes to pranking.
They’re actually really good friends, unlike the love/hate thing Dwight and Jim have going on. The late-night host and actor were neighbors in Los Angeles back in the day, and even now that they don’t live close together (Krasinski lives in New York), a prank war has sustained the time and distance.
Around Christmas in 2011, Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt started the war by breaking into Kimmel and wife Molly McNearney’s home (using a key Kimmel had given them, to be fair) and set up cutesy Christmas decorations to welcome them home.
If you’ve been a loyal watcher of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” over the years, you’re probably familiar with the trajectory of the pranks, increasing in both grandeur and hilarity. There was a home-turned-winter-wonderland and a not one, not two, but three gift-wrapped SUVs.
After that, Krasinski put a reindeer (like, a real reindeer) in Kimmel’s dressing room. Kimmel responded by setting up a yard sale...at Krasinski’s house.
From what it looks like, Krasinski is winning -- big time. Especially after this year’s installment of Krasinski versus Kimmel.
I would assume that if a celebrity of any kind is staying at a hotel, or renting a home, or anything of the sort, it’d be nice to be able to make it back to a room for the night without being followed or surrounded by papparazzi. Apparently being friends with Krasinski, though, doesn’t allow for the simple pleasures in life. The actor found the house Kimmel was renting in New York and set it up for public tours, complete with a banner announcing Kimmel’s presence and a choir singing out the pin number to get in the locked door.
Hordes of people were lined up ready to see Kimmel’s temporary residence, and Krasinski called for parents to take their kids trick-or-treating early.
The pranks are no longer limited to Christmastime, so game on.
