Just before Thanksgiving, patrons at a Chicago-area Michaels Arts & Crafts watched as 29-year-old Jennifer Boyle screamed at employees over shopping bags.
Fellow patron Jessie Grady took out her camera to capture Boyle's tirade, which had started before she was able to press record.
"This entitled young white woman was angry that an African American employee asked her if she wanted to buy a bag for her larger items," Grady wrote on her Facebook page.
"I started recording because I'd seen her in the store and she'd told me to go ahead of her in line and when I was about to leave she started lying & yelling at the employees and going on a horrible racist rant."
Over a month later, Boyle agreed to an interview with NBC Chicago to clear up any misconceptions the public has about her.
Boyle claims the cashier gave her a hard time as soon as she approached check-out, and assumed that she voted for Trump (which she did and proudly declared in Grady's video).
"Without greeting me or saying anything to me, the cashier started telling me 'No, no, no, I don't have bags to fill to put your things in," Boyle recalled.
The cashier, according to Boyle, then left her post to point out the reusable bags for purchase, which Boyle wasn't interested in. She said she just wanted to pay for her items and leave.
“This wasn’t about race, this was not about political views, this was about very poor customer service and being told to leave without warning,” she claimed.
Boyle's only regret? Not leaving the store sooner.
"Looking at it now, I think [leaving] would have been the right thing to do. I really believe that fight or flight kicked in and I felt that I needed to defend myself."
