I haven't thought about James Blunt in, oh, I don't know...a decade? Longer? But the British singer is out and about living his life and thriving on Twitter, it turns out. You may know Blunt as the guy who sings "You're Beautiful" -- the earworm of a one-hit wonder that you usually hear in shopping malls and dentist's offices.
"You're Beautiful" was from Blunt's debut album, "Back to Bedlam," but believe it or not...he's made more music. Five more albums' worth, to be exact, the most recent of which came out in October 2019. He even recently published a book in November! Nevertheless, he's really only widely known for "You're Beautiful." And even then, there's hot debate about whether or not it's a "good" song.
But Blunt knows this. And, actually, it's what makes him so pleasant to follow on Twitter. He knows that his making it as a singer is due largely in part wholly to that 2004 single, and even he's not sure if it's any good; his Twitter bio tellingly reads, "Proof that one song is all you need." It's like those TikTokers who work for months on creative sketches, hoping to go viral, only to have their silliest video made with the least amount of effort be the one to blow up.
But, when he's not poking fun at his own career, he's doling out zings to those who dare question his mastery (which, if we read his humor like we think he means it, is just more self-deprecation in and of itself). It's thoroughly entertaining; I may just start insulting James Blunt on Twitter myself to try and get a response out of him.
Also, he knows how to celebrate a lockdown birthday.
Keep doing you, Blunt!
