Illustrator and designer Chloë Langer does a lot: lettering work, fashion and beauty designs, wedding invitations, T-shirt logos -- but the Puntraits™ really get the crowd going.
Whether she’s inspired by a photo she wants to recreate digitally or finds some trending pop culture item to put a twist on, Langer knows her way around her craft -- even her profile photo on each of her platforms is a digital self-portrait that she designed.
After studying both art and science in school, the Switzerland-based artist’s Puntraits are exactly what they sound like -- portraits with a punny spin, and typically based on a celebrity, whether it’s an A-lister or a YouTube star. She migrates toward whatever is going on in the world around the time of her design and runs with it. For example, her Christmastime Puntraits were perfectly jolly.
“The idea of Puntraits came about following a conversation with my mum at Easter -- something to do with Jesus in jeans, aka Jeansus. Not my best work, I'll admit!” Langer told Dailybreak. “Then I brainstormed a list of celebrity puns. Over the last two years, I've developed my style and now have around 200 Puntraits in my portfolio.”
With the recent uptick in popularity for Penn Badgley’s show “YOU” on Netflix, Langer made a Penn Puntrait.
Ariana Grande is always top news these days, so we were given a play on the pop singer’s last name as related to Starbucks sizes.
She pokes fun at celebrity couples.
And the puns never stop.
Her other work is just as engaging, and I know I’m following her right away to keep up with whatever puns she comes up with next.
