A trip to Walt Disney World, though the vacation of a
lifetime, can be exhausting and difficult. There’s a lot of walking in the parks
and it seems that no matter what time of year you go, the lines for attractions
can be really long. During peak times, hitting even a handful of
rides can be an achievement. So how did one couple hit all 46 rides in
18 hours without a single FastPass?
FastPasses are considered a golden ticket to top rides
around the parks. Most admission tickets to Disney come with three a day (with one
more at a time after you use the first three), but Shane Lindsay, 45, and Kristina Hawkins, 31, decided to up the ante on the Parkeology Challenge and use none. Shane created the challenge in 2013 with friend and fellow
park enthusiast Ted Tamburo. The goal was to go on every ride in Walt Disney World's four parks in one day. With two rides short on
their initial run, Shane and Ted’s mouse marathon went viral. Though they were successful the
following year, Shane and Ted claim that 90 percent of those who attempt the challenge also fail.
Having conquered the beast in 2014, Shane and
friend Kristina attempted the next level of the challenge, which they dubbed “The Oxygen-Free Parkeology Challenge"(their very own Mount Everest climb). They had four parks to cover: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood
Studios and they were going to try it without a net, er, FastPass. They carefully
monitored the ride maintenance schedules, park hours and predicted crowds at
each park before they made their move. According to the official rules, if it
moves, it’s a ride, which means the tally for them on that day was 46 (Big Thunder
Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway are closed for refurbishment).
Here’s how they did it, plus tips to incorporate into your
next Disney vacation:
