The Countess of Carnarvon knows a thing or two about entertaining, a crucial skill when you live at Highclere Castle. If the latter's name rings a bell, it's because the estate served as the setting for "Downton Abbey."
After realizing there was an interest in gin (and an already-established interest in the castle), Her Ladyship created Highclere Castle Gin. The spirit is made locally and infused with botanicals from the castle's herb gardens (originally planted by the Bishops of Winchester in the ninth century).
The purple glass bottle, which was inspired by Highclere Castle's architect, Sir Charles Barry, features a silhouette of the famous home. One expects Mr. Carson to appear and ask how you take your gin.
Highclere Castle Gin shared a few tasty (and easy) cocktail recipes with us, all of which make you feel as though you're sitting down to dinner with the Crawleys. The recipes were recorded in the early 1900s by the castle's then-head butler. Fast forward 100 or so years, and the current head butler, Luis, is behind the bar with Highclere Castle Gin.
