Usually the story goes like this: "a woman (or man) was saved from a shark." Today, however, it goes a little something like this: "a shark was saved by a woman!"
Melissa Hatheier was swimming in a rock pool in Sydney, Australia when she realized she had company; a shark, she noticed, somehow got into the rock pool from the ocean and was trapped.
Video footage shows Hathier swimming toward the shark as it tried to escape from the pool. She gently picked it up and threw it over a wall back into the ocean.
A story like this brings out a lot of WTF-like questions. Would I have done this? How did it even end up in there? How wasn't she scared? Is she crazy?
Not a clue. One thing I do know is that this bad*ss chick, also known as “The Shark Wrangler,” went out of her way to release this commonly known “bad boy” back to the big ol’ blue.
In an interview with Australia's "Today," Hathier was asked if she was scared at all. “I was just thinking he’s trapped in this little whirl pool and he just needs to get out, so I need to help him out," she explained.
As a real estate agent, Hathier went on, she needs to "help people relocate to their perfect home" and that’s exactly what she did with the shark.
As I gaze into my think-bubble, I envision myself being as bold and fearless as she was. So I'm going to pretend that I am.
Seeing this made my heart flutter because too many imbeciles interfere ~negatively~ with the wildlife for the sake of social media attention. Like that time when those chumps took dolphins out of the ocean for selfies.
But this heroine wasn’t rescuing this shark for people's opinions, only for the sole purpose of saving a life.
