In an MMMBop, you’ve got a name! If you’re stumped on what
to name your baby, the wives of two-thirds of the music group Hanson are here
to save the day.
If you remember, Hanson was the cherub-faced band of brothers
who recorded the mega hit “MMMBop” in 1997 -- like a blond Jonas Brothers. Sisters-in-law
Kathryn Hanson and Natalie Hanson, wives of Zac and Taylor,
respectively, are launching a brand new business called Modern Moniker where
they will name your babies.
The pair certainly have a lot of practice naming kids. Natalie
and Taylor have six children together: son Jordan Ezra, 18; daughter Penelope
"Penny" Anne, 15; son River Samuel, 14; son Viggo Moriah, 11; daughter
Wilhelmina "Willa" Jane, 8; son Claude
Indiana Emmanuel, 1; and the couple just recently announced that number
seven is on the way in December.
Kathryn and Zac have four kids: son John Ira "Shepherd" Hanson, 10; daughter Junia Rosa Ruth, 9; son George "Abraham" Walker, 6; and daughter Mary "Lucille" Diana, 4.
With these creative combos, a mixture of both old school names and trendy new ones, they
certainly have a knack for onomastics.
The duo, who launched their business in late August, said on
their Instagram page that baby names are their passion.
“For years we’ve
enjoyed helping friends and family navigate the wide world of naming their
babies to be, in addition to naming our own collective 10 children!” they
stated. “Now, we’d love to help you on your own naming journey. Whether
the choices are just too endless, or you’re having a hard time convincing your
partner that your dream name is the one, we’re here for you!”
For a fee, the Hanson wives will take you on as a client, of
which they accept a limited amount every month, and help you pick out a name.
Or, judging by their kids lengthy monikers, three.
As seen on their Instagram page, the pair favor "Harry
Potter"-inspired names. Samples include Rowena, Felix and Eudora, who are, in that
order, the Ravenclaw house founder, a spell and a Slytherin.
New names are dropped every Monday for #MonikerMonday, so
stay tuned for more free ideas. There’s no word of how much becoming a paying
client of Modern Moniker will cost you, but other baby name consultants charge
anywhere from $100 to $29,000, with the average running around a few hundred dollars.
As for starting your own career in baby-naming, it seems
like this is a job for creative minds and no advanced degree is required. Natalie’s
past gigs include homeschooling her brood and working as a writer for Tulsa Kids Magazine. Kate lists herself as a “book club President.”
But what about their other sister-in-law, Nicole, wife of the eldest Hanson, Isaac? They have three pleasantly-named children together: Clarke "Everett," James "Monroe" and Nina Odette. It seems she’s certainly as talented with titles, so we’ll see if the family business will expand to a triple sister-in-law team at some point.
Until then, we'll rely on Natalie and Kate's wisdom. Do you think, for those of us without children on the horizon, they'd be open to naming pets, too?
