Yes, you read that right. "Frozen" co-director Chris Buck has confirmed that at least one of the many Disney conspiracy theories floating around is correct -- Tarzan is Anna and Elsa's little brother.
Back up, explain.
Well, according to a Reddit AMA that Buck and co-director Jennifer Lee did in 2014, the king and queen of Arendelle actually weren't killed in a shipwreck like the movie implies. Rather, they ended up stranded on a jungle island. The queen was pregnant when they left Arendelle, and eventually gave birth to a baby boy, Tarzan.
Reddit user Georgie_Kay asked, "Where were the King and Queen planning to go when they lost their lives out at sea?"
To which Lee responded, "A wedding."
"According to Chris, they didn't die on the boat," she continued. "They got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard..."
This would make sense, especially since Buck was also a co-director for the 1999 flick, "Tarzan."
As Buck told MTV News, working on an animated feature takes quite a while, which makes it easy to connect multiple storylines in your head.
"I think Jen [Lee] and I were walking to a meeting, and I just start to tell her the entire story," Buck explained.
"I said, 'Of course Anna and Elsa's parents didn't die,'" he added. "Yes, there was a shipwreck, but they were at sea a little bit longer than we think they were because the mother was pregnant, and she gave birth on the boat, to a little boy. They get shipwrecked, and somehow they really washed way far away from the Scandinavian waters, and they end up in the jungle. They end up building a tree house and a leopard kills them, so their baby boy is raised by gorillas. So in my little head, Anna and Elsa's brother is Tarzan -- but on the other side of that island are surfing penguins, to tie in a non-Disney movie, 'Surf's Up.' That's my fun little world."
Mind = blown.
To take the theories even farther, many people believe that the king and queen of Arendelle were actually headed to the wedding of Rapunzel and Eugene when they left. The "Tangled" stars make a cameo in "Frozen," very briefly at the beginning of the film. This could mean that the two kingdoms' royalty were friends and it is totally plausible that they would attend each other's weddings.
Redditor eazyfreakine explains this connection.
"Somewhere near the end of Tangled, Flynn tells Rapunzel that he has heard Arendelle is nice this time of year. In Frozen, during the song "For the First Time in Forever," Flynn and Rapunzel can be seen outside right after the gates are opened and Anna comes out of them. But why are the happy couple at Arendelle?"
"It all has to do with the King and Queen in Frozen," they continue. "Since it's apparent Frozen and Tangled take place in the same universe, there must be a reason. [...] When a long lost princess is found and becomes married, that would be cause for other royals to come to the wedding. In Frozen, the King and Queen were leaving for Rapunzel's wedding. But wait there's more! The reason why Flynn and Rapunzel are at Elsa's coronation is because they knew why Anna and Elsa's parents were dead. They felt guilty because it was indirectly their fault the princesses of Arendelle were orphans."
"But where's my evidence?! Tangled came out in November 2010 and Frozen came out November of 2013. That's 3 years apart...just the same amount of time it was between the King and Queen's death and Elsa's coronation."
These theories originally broke in 2015, but have recently resurfaced and people are freaking out. Could there be a "Tarzan"/"Frozen" crossover in our future? I hope so.
