Tons of well-deserved awards were given out at the 61st Grammys last night: Childish Gambino won Record of the Year for “This Is America,” Lady Gaga won three separate awards (two for “Shallow,” one for “Joanne”) and Dua Lipa took Best New Artist. Another no-brainer? H.E.R’s win for Best R&B Album, even if “it’s not even an album -- it's an EP!” as she exclaimed during her acceptance.
The 21-year-old singer-songwriter won her award (among the four other nominations she received, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist) after her first Grammys performance, when she sang “Her Place” off of the recent “I Used to Know Her: Part 2” EP. Still shrouded in a veil of mystery, if the young California performer proved one thing at last night’s show, it’s that she’ll make a name for herself in her own way yet.
