1. Mount Dessert Island, Maine
They don’t call Maine “Vacationland” for nothing! With over 200 miles of coastline in the state, there’s plenty to do. Mount Dessert Island is of special interest for families, however. A large portion of the island is Acadia National Park, which has hiking, biking, and exploring galore. To the east of the island is Bar Harbor, which has plenty of shopping and dining. And, of course, lobster!
Do: Carriage ride through Acadia, Diver Ed’s Dive-In-Theater boat cruise, Oceanarium and Lobster Hatchery, L.L. Bean headquarters in Freeport
Stay: Bluenose Inn
Eat: Popovers at Jordan Pond House
