This Footage of an Erupting Icelandic Volcano Is as Hot as the Lava Itself

On March 19, the Fagradalsfjall volcano near the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik erupted (the first eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula in 800 years), and hikers took advantage of a nearby vantage point to witness the fiery lava flows -- one even flew a drone right over the volcano's bubbling summit and scientists set up time-lapse videos to observe the eruption into the night. Iceland's meteorological office has reported over 40,000 small earthquakes in the area over the last few weeks, which they believe is what prompted the eruption of this long-dormant volcano.
