Some days are just made for a toasted everything bagel with a schmear of cream cheese. This popular flavor is usually a plain
bagel coated with seeds like poppy and sesame, onion and garlic flakes, plus salt and pepper. Now picture this: What would happen if we made that bagel a donut? Would you still eat it?
Bloominghouse Buns Bakehouse in Las Vegas has accepted this
challenge with their everything bagel brionut, a donut made with a brioche
base. It looks like a typical glazed raised donut that is then injected with a
savory cream cheese and chive filling, finished with a chive sprinkle. A little sweet, a little zesty, creamy and weird, but good. What do you wash it down with? We think only an everything bagel
coffee will do.
For that, you need to cross the country to
Massachusetts-based Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters. There, you can find a drink
made from house blend cold brew coffee, mixed with everything bagel-flavored cream, topped
with whipped cream and sprinkled with a dash of Everything But The Bagel seasoning! If you’ve never had garlic-studded coffee, there's no time like the present to give it a try.
When you stop and think about it, breakfast flavors always seem to mix
and mingle -- bacon and eggs, maple-flavored bacon, maple-flavored coffee.
It’s a morning blur of classic flavor combos. You're usually drinking a coffee
with that everything bagel anyway, so it might not actually be that weird to cut to the chase and sweeten it all up.
The idea of "everything-a-fying" your favorite breakfast foods
is not isolated to these two cafes. Everything bagel donuts are popping up around
the country, from Doe Donuts in Portland, Ore. to Blackbird Donuts in Boston, Mass. and everywhere in between. You might say these donuts are having a moment.
It's not only the donuts, though. Everything bagel seasoning is literally on everything these days. A quick browse through Instagram will show you recipes that put it on a variety of dishes, from chicken to popcorn. It's a versatile, basic spice blend with a nice crunchy texture. I
personally love a sprinkle of it on avocado toast.
With so many uses for the seasoning, an ice cream topper seems inevitable, doesn’t it?
Never mind, Jeni’s Ice Cream is one step ahead of us with their Everything Bagel ice cream flavor.
It looks like everything bagel seasoning will be making an impact on our food for the time being. I don't know if that's good or bad, but definitely curious.
