Coffee consumers can agree that coffee in any form is delicious, whether you’re downing a steaming (or iced!) afternoon pick-me-up, popping some chocolate-covered espresso beans into your weary mouth or snacking on some java chip ice cream. Creative online food bloggers have even used the bean to create other, innovative mouth-watering desserts like mocha oatmeal cookies or cappuccino ice pops.
However, whoever came up with the idea to turn coffee into a jam is a borderline genius.
London-based lifestyle retailer Firebox sells “Spreadable Coffee,” aka Espresso Marmalade, that’s made in small batches and is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: classic orange marmalade made with coffee.
The vegetarian-friendly marmalade consists of simple ingredients like sugar, oranges, citric acid and is, according to the product’s description, “laced with lashings of of artisan-roasted coffee.” Firebox also added a sly tagline to the product: “Beans on Toast,” a play on the classic English baked-beans and toast breakfast (Can you imagine if baked bean marmalade existed? Yeah, me neither).
The Proper Marmalade Company, based out of Devon, England, produces the marmalade and carries other “proper” and “improper” flavors like Gin and Tonic, Lemon and Horseradish and Whiskey.
These and other alcoholic spreadable joys are for sale on Firebox’s site, including Spreadable Beer.
Priced at $13.59, it’s definitely on the pricier side of jams and jellies, but probably worth it. Other downsides include the fact that the marmalade isn’t actually caffeinated and it cannot be shipped to the U.S. due to food shipping restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Twitterverse is having fun with the idea of spreadable coffee:
