Although no sicknesses have been reported as of yet, the company is taking action after routine tests revealed the potential for contamination.
Kellogg is specifically recalling all 10-count packs of the Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles with a used by date between November 21, 2017 and November 22, 2017. The company stressed that none of its other products are affected by Listeria. It advises consumers with products matching this description throw away the waffles and contact Kellogg for a full refund.
What exactly is Listeria? It's a bacteria that can contaminate food and lead to listeriosis. Those most susceptible to the disease are the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include a fever, muscle aches, occasional diarrhea, fatigue, headache, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. While the bacteria starts in the gastrointestinal tract, most people affected have an invasive version of the infection, meaning it spreads to other parts of the body if left untreated. Pregnant women should be hyper alert of potential symptoms, as Listeria can cause miscarriage, stillbirth and premature delivery.
