Washing your face seems like a pretty basic thing, right?
Apply cleanser, rub all over face, rinse. If that is your cleansing routine,
you might be doing half the job and denying your skin the benefits of a double
cleanse.
A staple of Korean skincare, a double cleanse is just as it sounds -- it’s basically
washing your face twice, but instead of stripping it with harsh cleansers, the
products matter greatly. Not every face wash is cut out for this two-step
process and the two cleansers must work together for the correct skin balance.
To do a proper double cleanse, start with a creamy oil-based
cleanser. A good oil cleanser will not clog your pores, but it will break down
stubborn makeup and even waterproof sunscreen -- a key benefit for the summer
when we may have layers and layers of products and sunscreen on our faces. It will also not strip the skin of natural, beneficial oils. Naturium Fermented Camellia Cream Cleansing Oil is perfect for this step as the creamy cleanser turns into a deep
cleansing oil. Fermented camellia seed oil is packed with antioxidants that the
skin quickly absorbs, due to the fermentation. Linoleic acid helps clear
congested pores while camellia extract soothes inflammation.
For this first cleanse, you’ll want to apply the oil
cleanser to dry skin and gently massage to work into your skin. This
would also be a good time to use a jade or quartz roller if you want to depuff and add some lymphatic drainage. Wipe the cleanser, makeup and dirt away with a damp Makeup Eraser.
If you have super dry skin, you may be tempted to stop here,
but if you want the full benefit of a double-cleanse, follow-up with a second,
deeper cleanse. Your pores are now open, allowing the active ingredients in the
next cleanser to effectively penetrate your skin.
Now grab a water-based cleanser for this next step, like Naturium’s Fermented Rice Enzyme Cleanser. This sudsy cleanser also contains natural
rice based exfoliating powders to gently exfoliate dead skin (yet are
biodegradable and don’t harm the environment). The rice powder will unlock that
natural glow plus lighten dark spots. Fermented pumpkin fruit extract also exfoliates and brightens, while niacinamide and glycerin strengthen your skin's natural barrier.
Massage this second cleanser into damp skin and give a thorough rinse with water.
Follow up with good moisturizers, serums and treatments, and masks as needed.
Doing this every evening will help clear your skin of the
day past and get it ready for the night ahead. In the morning, you may want to
cleanse again, especially if you have oily skin, but just a gentle
water-based cleanser, like good old-fashioned Cetaphil, may be all you need.
Don’t forget the SPF, like CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen and you should be ready to start your day!
