Social media coverage of the Jonas Brothers' "Happiness Begins" tour has taken a bit of a pause in the last day due to interference. And I'm not talking about a technology spasm.
Diplo, a DJ/producer with quite a large discography, has hacked the official Jonas Brothers Instagram account. Is it all a big joke? Is he maliciously messing with the JoBros' feed? What's the agenda, here?
We know that Diplo and Joe Jonas, at least, are buddies -- the DJ was a guest at the middle Jonas' Las Vegas wedding to "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner in May, but (in)famously "accidentally" leaked the news (Jonas and Turner later had a more official ceremony in France in June). As a guest, Diplo claimed he had no idea he wasn't supposed to livestream the secret nuptials on his Instagram story.
*sigh*
Jonas commented that Diplo "totally ruined" the ceremony and Diplo fired back, but it all seemed like two friends ribbing on each other. Perhaps, though, it was the nail in the coffin of their friendship, and now Diplo is getting back at the trio?
The uninvited posts on the JoBros account go from self-promo for Diplo to more...scathing? mockeries of the brothers, and a photo of Diplo is now the profile picture for the account. It's also now following only one person: yep, Diplo.
He even shared a photo of boy band Hanson, urging followers to "never forget the original jonas brothers." Ouch.
Kevin, Nick and Joe have commented on the posts, sarcastically berating the DJ.
Let it be known, though: This is all in good fun. Actually, it's turning out to be a successful marketing ploy. You see, Diplo is putting out a country album, using his real name (Thomas Wesley), on which the Jonas Brothers will be featured. Diplo has already released the first single from the upcoming album, "So Long," featuring country singer Cam, and it looks like we're getting the Jonas Brothers collab, well, tonight! On the most recent "hacked" post, the last frame shows a photo of Diplo wearing a cowboy hat with "friday at 12am" written across the bottom.
I, for one, am stoked. The Jonas Brothers have shown that their reunion comes with no shortage of new music territory, as they were featured on a Latin song, "Runaway," a few months ago by Sebastián Yatra, Daddy Yankee and Natti Natasha.
Country Jonas?! Here. For. It.
