The “500 Days of Summer" star has
appeared in every one of director Rian Johnson’s movies, including this one. The
name Slowen Lo is a play on the Beastie Boys’ song. Levitt can be seen in Canto
Bight as an orange alien who IDs Finn and Rose to the authorities.
The “Baby Driver” director is a
friend of director Rian Johnson and he can be seen standing (middle) with his
brother Oscar, comedian Joe Cornish and producer Leo Thompson. The quartet play
resistance fighters in the film.
Best known for her work in period
pieces like “Pride and Prejudice,” the star was 14 when she was cast as Queen
Amidala’s decoy. It would be another four years before she would break out in “The
Pirates of the Caribbean.”
The future director of “The
Beguiled” wanted to shadow family friend
George Lucas while he worked on set. He threw a costume on her and she became
part of the action as one of Padmé's handmaidens.
James
Bond was unrecognizably hidden behind the helmet in the scene where he is
guarding Rey and falls for her Jedi mind trick. Craig was filming “Spectre” in
Pinewood Studios while this movie was being filmed, asked the crew for a small
part and he was shooting the scene by the end of the week.
The “Trainwreck” funny man lent
his voiceover skills to the beeping and booping round droid along with Ben
Schwartz (“Parks and Recreation”). Their voices were put into an iPad app that
translated them into electronic noises.
Simon Pegg has been very involved
in space movies, writing and starring in the rebooted “Star Trek” series as
Scotty. He played a small role here as a junk trader who haggles with Rey.
George Lucas, creator of the
franchise and director of four films, put himself in the action as a politician.
His whole family had tiny roles in the prequel series including his three children Amanda, Katie and Jett. He's the tall blue guy on the left.
Theroux ("The Leftovers") is probably one of the easiest
cameos to spot as he looks more like his human self than most cameos. He is gambling
and hanging with the ladies (one of whom is model Lily Cole) on Canto Bight and frustratingly does not help Rose
and Finn, even though they journeyed there to find him.
The directors of the "Star Wars" films like to trade places as Edwards appeared in this film while director Rian
Johnson made a cameo in Edwards film, “Rogue One.” Johnson is hard to spot as an
Imperial officer, but here you can see Edwards on the left as a soldier on Crait.
Director Smith
(“Clerks”) is a well-know fanboy and got to live the dream in 2015 as a Stormtrooper.
He even has a line: “We
have incoming at 28.6! Move!"
“The Affair” star was still
unknown when he shot his role as one of Queen Amidala’s guards in 1999. It
would take another eight years for him to get to his breakthrough role on “The
Wire.”
This is less of a cameo and more
of a “I didn’t know that was him!” when actor and director Edgerton (“The Gift”),
then unknown, played the part of a young Uncle Owen, adopted father of Luke
Skywalker.
Before
she was one of the “Bridesmaids,” she was a handmaiden. Byrne had a small role as the dutiful
assistant to Senator Padmé Amidala. Her one job seems to be to protect Padmé, helping her to safety several times during
the film.
Going way back to the first series
of films, the “Cheers” and “Toy Story” actor had a small part as a rebel
station on planet Hoth.
The successor to Queen Amidala is
“Whale Rider” and “Game of Thrones” star Castle-Hughes. She was only 15 at the
time, which was perfect to be playing the Naboo ruler, who is usually a teen
girl.
