At first glance, rapper Cardi B and actress Fran Drescher have absolutely nothing in common. But when you consider the facts (they’re both from New York, have a penchant for flashy clothes and their voices all but haunt your dreams), you realize that they actually go together like cheetah print and red lipstick -- it shouldn’t work, but it does, okurrr?
A few months ago, rumors were swirling of a reboot of the ‘90’s “The Nanny” with Drescher reprising her role as the flashy girl from Flushing, but for now it seems that the plan is on hold; the conceptualized show doesn’t have a home yet.
“I don’t know what is going on with some of these networks out there because they do not seem to be hip to the fact that there’s an obsession amongst millennials for the show and moi!” Drescher told PEOPLE.
Luckily, Drescher has another idea in mind: a sitcom co-starring Cardi B. Rather than a traditional “Nanny” reboot, though, Drescher is thinking about a whole new kind of show playing opposite the “Bodak Yellow” singer. And good thing, because the original idea from a few weeks ago was for Cardi to play Nanny Fine’s daughter, which was met with the need for some plot manhandling.
“Not [a daughter] from me and Mr. Sheffield,” Drescher said. “I would have to have a man of color. I’m down with the brothers.”
Nevertheless, Cardi was in.
Now, though, Drescher is switching gears, and it looks like she’s down to get creative to get a new sitcom in the works. Who needs a reboot when they can just make an entirely new show?
“I am actually talking to her representation, and it may not be for ‘The Nanny,’ but it could be for something else,” Drescher told Entertainment Tonight. “A millennial-meets-baby-boomer kind of concept. I would love to work with her.”
And we would all love to watch.
Drescher and Cardi have become, kind of accidentally, huge fans of each other. Cardi called it back to Nanny Fine in an Instagram post from September during Milan Fashion Week, and Drescher was ecstatic -- though she had to familiarize herself with the rapper after seeing the flattering imitation.
“I only really got familiar with her when she paid homage to me on her Instagram, so it’s very nice that she’s a fan of ‘The Nanny’ and a fan of mine, and now I’m a fan of hers,” Drescher said. “And then I got my juices flowing and thought, ‘Wait a minute, she’s from New York, we both have funny voices, she could be my daughter!'”
“I think we could make a great combo,” she continued. “And I just think she’s funny, so we’ll see.”
Cardi/Drescher 2020, anyone?
