ICYMI, the first full-length trailer for “Captain Marvel” premiered yesterday, and even as someone who has seen very few Marvel films, I say it looks freakin’ bad*ss. Even those unfamiliar with the storylines that weave in and out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with seemingly little rhyme or reason should go and watch Brie Larson kick some butt.
Part origin story, part preface to the untitled “Avengers 4” film due out in May, Carol Danvers in “Captain Marvel” (along with her Kree crew that includes Gemma Chan of “Crazy Rich Asians”) looks like the only thing standing between peace in the universe and Thanos, who, as even those unfamiliar with “Avengers: Infinity War” know, basically either killed or vaporized almost every cast member in last season's biggest blockbuster.
Fans of the MCU who just can’t wait to see what Captain Marvel will use her wildly strong powers for regarding Thanos are biding their time by creating memes of him shaking in his (giant) boots after getting his first glimpse of Marvel and her glowing eyes. I mean, she punched an old lady in the face -- I would be scared, too.
To play devil’s advocate, I’d like to entertain the thought that because so many people assume Marvel will defeat Thanos, it won’t happen that way. What then? Another 12 movies?
Probably.
