One of the ways many people diet is by calorie counting. However, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what brand you need, how much of it you actually had and which calorie count is the most accurate. But now, the nutrition tracking app called Lose It! just made your life easier.
Users can count calories by taking photos of their food. The image recognition software guesses what the photo is then matches it to items in the app's database. If it doesn't show up in the recommended options, you can manually enter it yourself.
It seems that, when it comes to healthy food choices, the app can easily recognize most of them. However, the suggestions are pretty amusing 80% of the time (RE: Granola = Chicken). We also realized that taking pictures of the same item from different angles can both increase and decrease the amount of suggestions that appear below.
Finally, if you take pictures of packaged goods or desserts, it's harder for the app to recognize them. Probably because you shouldn't be eating these things anyway if you're "watching your figure."
The app definitely speeds up the inputting process by decreasing the amount of time you are searching for a type of food. For the most part it can only recognize general categories of food -- like candy and hummus -- so you'll have to select the specific item to get an accurate entry.
