“Bring It On” did amazing things for cheerleading as a sport -- I just know that you went out in your backyard and tried some subpar cartwheels and spirit fingers after watching these movies. Were they the most well-made movies I’ve seen? No. Did they contain any kind of intellectually-stimulating content? Also no (unless you count the character of Sparky Polastri and his choreography, which I do).
But what they did have was one-of-a-kind character names (see: Torrence, Whittier, Carson) and cheer routines that made the glorified gymnastics actually seem exciting.
That being said, these films provided a kind of initiation into teen-hood, so I’m taking it upon myself to rank them from worst to best. Please note, however, that I’m ignoring the latest installment, 2017’s “Worldwide #Cheersmack” because I’m still confused about its existence.
