Weighted blankets have become more and more popular as a tool to fight anxiety and insomnia. The added pressure acts as a source of comfort at bedtime for those that have trouble relaxing and falling asleep.
Weighted blankets can add anywhere from five to 30 pounds to your bedding, which is said to encourage your body to produce helpful hormones that benefit a deep sleep. It’s also comforting to those struggling with anxiety disorders because of the feeling of “grounding,” or how much contact you have with your bed, which has been linked to decreasing cortisol (or stress-inducing hormones) levels and increasing melatonin.
While this is all well and good, the Gravity blanket is well-known as the best on the market -- and it costs $250. I love spending obnoxious amounts of money on things that probably won’t may change my life for the better, but even I can’t get behind dropping that dough.
You won’t find a weighted blanket for bargain basement prices, but we can whittle it down a bit.
