These days, there are almost too many cinematic universes and storylines to keep
track of. Marvel’s “Avengers,” “Star Wars,” “Planet of the Apes” -- my head is spinning just trying to name all of them. Oh, and here's one more that should be on your radar: The X-Men Universe.
The X-Men are Marvel characters but are currently owned
by Fox, while the Avengers are owned by Disney. So for now, they exist in separate
universes. To make things more complicated, the X-Men Universe also has
multiple timelines.
In 2000, Bryan Singer kicked off the first trilogy with “X-Men.” “X-2” and “X-Men: The Last Stand”
came next, followed by a trio of Wolverine stand-alone films, three “reboot”
films, two Deadpool spinoffs and next year’s “Dark Phoenix” and “The
New Mutants.” Wolverine can be traced back to the Civil War and his story jumps
around quite a bit, and then in “Days of Future Past” a time schism occurs and
two different timelines emerge. How do they all fit together? We're not even going to begin with all the continuity problems that plague this franchise. Let’s break down
what we know so far.
