Cuban artist Darian Mederos deals mostly in portraiture, sharing his artwork on his Instagram account, where he's amassed nearly 200,000 followers. It's his "Obscura Series," though, that really draws the eye: These portraits are painted as if they're encased in bubble wrap, a detail that you'd never expect but the realism of which is pretty darn mesmerizing. Mederos has been painting like this as a way of "asking us to understand the core of human identity, from a respectful distance," according to his website, since the faces he paints blur as you get closer.
