UPDATE May 23, 1:27 p.m. ET: The New York Times confirms that the person responsible for the attacks at Manchester Arena was Salman Abedi, a 22-year-old British man whose parents had emigrated to the United Kingdom from Libya. Abedi was understood to live just 3.5 miles from the arena after police found his ID among the debris.
UPDATE May 23 7:42 a.m. ET: It's been confirmed that 22 people have died as a result of the bombing. According to BBC News, the first victim has been identified as 18-year-old Georgina Callandar, a student at Runshaw College in Lancashire.
Several injuries and at least 19 fatalities have been reported after an explosion occurred at Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester, England, according to NBC News.
"I just heard a loud bang," concert goer Iva Delgado told the network."People started screaming and going to the other side of the arena."
The incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. local time, and Sky News reports that the death toll is at 19, with 50 injuries.
The arena, which seats 21,000, was at maximum capacity, and while it's not clear where exactly the explosion occurred, it was in an area where people would exit through post-performance.
"It's very difficult to tell from (the arena's) statement where exactly the device went off. There are places outside the arena which, if you're in it, you wouldn't realise," a Sky News Manchester correspondent told the British network. "It could have happened anywhere within the space of a five-minute walk."
Grande's rep, meanwhile, confirmed that the singer is safe.
Others told BBC Manchester Radio the horror they witnessed.
“I was in the foyer, the glass exploded. It was definitely a bomb the whole building shook. Body parts were everywhere, a torso, an ear. It was the worst thing I have ever seen. Bodies were everywhere," a female named Emma recalled.
“It shattered the glass and there was a fire after it. I have no idea how we survived. The safety glass had all gone. My ears are still ringing. I can’t get the picture of those bodies out of my head but I must say our bags were definitely checked and security was present throughout the event.”
