In a surprise twist earlier this month, Warner Bros. announced that their new adaptation of "The Witches" would bypass theaters for an earlier, streaming-only release. The film, a newer version of the Anjelica Huston-led 1990 film based on the children's book by Roald Dahl, stars Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer and will now premiere on Oct. 22 on HBO Max.
Meanwhile, Hathaway has been teasing the release on Instagram. After sharing the trailer, she spotlighted the great Huston, praising the actress's performance as the Grand High Witch and taking note of the giant shoes she was charged with filling during her own turn with the role.
"I just wanted to say, one AH to another, that I tip my wig to the O.G.G.H.W. Anjelica Huston," she wrote.
Hathaway also shared a clip of cast interviews interspersed with scenes from the film as a sort of PSA: How to Spot a Witch, where she and her co-stars went over the details to look out for when trying to discern if a witch is in your presence, such as elongated mouths, large nostrils and lack of toes.
But most recently, Hathaway post a wickedly mesmerizing photo of herself in costume as the Grand High Witch, and between her ashy, beehive hair, dramatic smokey eye and the scars lining her cheeks up from her lips, we're sold -- this witch means business.
If this is just one of the looks we can expect from Hathaway in "The Witches," well, we're planning our Halloween movie night now. But in the meantime, who says we can't also pull off this eerily brilliant spooky season vibe? Heck, maybe we've even figured out our costume for this year!
