Summer camp is about to get deadly. The new trailer and teasers for "American Horror Story: 1984"(season 9 of the anthology) have finally dropped, and it looks like an ‘80s summer camp slasher film (think "Friday the 13th"). You have your teens in pickup trucks drinking
beer, sunbathers by a murky lake and a man dressed in black with a big, fat
knife.
This season is a departure from those in the past; neither cast regular Evan Peters nor Billy Eichner will appear, but "AHS" regular Sarah Paulson will possibly guest-star. Those who are returning include Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman and Cody Fern. Matthew
Morrison (“Glee”), DeRon Horton (“American Vandal”), Angelica Ross (“Pose”), Zach
Villa (“Destroyer”) and Olympian Gus Kenworthy will all make their debut.
You can check out some of their “'80s lewks” in
this teaser from co-creator and showrunner Ryan Murphy, who packed five different
videos into one mega Instagram post. Matthew Morrison is clearly the scene-stealer
here due to his…ummmm…shorts.
What’s unclear is if this season will pull a switcheroo like
past seasons, such as "AHS: Roanoke." It started as one thing (a
haunted house) before turning into another (a deadly reality show). It’s telling that all the clips released so far -- apart from the wardrobe “tests” -- don’t
include the main cast.
There are major '80s camp vibes a la "Wet Hot American Summer" in the preview. The major difference? The 2001
summer campy-camp comedy was outrageously funny, while "1984" looks...absolutely terrifying.
"AHS: 1984" premieres Wednesday, September 18 on FX!
