Fifteen years ago, the U.S. faced one of the worst domestic attacks in the country's history when four planes crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. For a brief moment, everything seemed to stop as the country collectively feared for its safety and mourned the loss of 2,996 people. But in the decade and a half since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the U.S. has shown strength in the face of disaster. Today, victims are honored with heartfelt memorials, educational programs are in place to ensure future generations remember the country's struggle and the families of 9/11 victims are cared for through charities and volunteer organizations.
