Parenting changes from generation to generation in lots of different ways, and no one group is correct over the other. Times are different, more info on lots of things is available and some moms are just more hands-on than others! Two moms took it upon themselves to show off just how different parenting has become (in an extreme sense) by using Halloween as an example.
Meredith Masony and Tiffany Jenkins, two mommy bloggers, played the roles of an '80s mom and a millennial mom, respectively, preparing for Halloween with their kids. The discrepancies are equally jarring, hilarious and on point.
As the '80s mom, Masony sends her kids off to a pumpkin carving party with a butcher's knife, just a brief cautionary warning and a "Have your brother watch you!" going with it. Meanwhile, Millennial Mom Jenkins refuses to let her kids even touch the tools that come in the pumpkin carving kit.
Millennial Mom wants her kids home before sundown; '80s Mom wants her brood to hit up the "rich" houses first and to "bang harder" if their lights are off -- she knows they're home.
And as far as goodies for the Halloween party at school? Millennial Mom's got it covered with "gluten-free, soy, organic, mung bean rice krispie treats." '80s Mom, meanwhile, has a box of Twinkies in the pantry -- that'll do.
Of course, this isn't a commentary of every '80s or millennial mom out there -- but it's not a far cry.
